Welcome to Defender Profiles. Here you’ll learn about one of our amazing defenders of childhood – everything from what they do for CHOC to what they do for fun – and gain insight into a different department in our health system.
As a mother of three daughters, emergency room (ER) admitting representative Tanya Armenta is well-versed in juggling a busy lifestyle while thriving in fast-paced, dynamic settings. After honing her skills as a supervisor in the restaurant industry, Tanya made the switch to health care. She first gained experience in the ER department of another hospital before becoming part of CHOC’s mighty brigade. Her goal is to provide a soothing presence for parents during challenging times when they need to bring their child to the emergency department (ED).
How long have you worked at CHOC?
I started working as an emergency room (ER) admitting representative at CHOC in July 2023, so I’ve been here for almost two years.
Can you describe your current role?
As an emergency room (ER) admitting representative at CHOC, my responsibilities include registering patients, confirming their insurance eligibility, collecting copays and ensuring we have all the required consent forms and demographic details from guardians. By gathering this information, along with a brief overview of their visit, we can facilitate prompt attention to their needs. When patients arrive, we serve as their initial point of contact, helping set the tone for the patient experience from the moment they walk in.
What do you love about your current role?
I love the people I work with. Everyone is very sweet and easy to collaborate with. Being able to connect with patients and families during challenging times is rewarding. As a parent, I recognize how stressful it can be to take a child to the ED, so I’m grateful for the opportunity to empathize with and support them during such times.
What do you love about working at CHOC?
My passion for children makes my role at CHOC incredibly rewarding. I am grateful for the flexibility in my schedule, as it helps me maintain a better balance between work and family life, allowing me to spend more quality time with my kids.

How has CHOC changed and progressed in your time here?
Although I’ve only been at CHOC for a short time, one notable change is the opening of the CHOC Pediatric Urgent Care in the Commerce Tower, across from the Julia and George Argyros Emergency Department at CHOC Hospital in Orange. It’s nice to have an urgent care nearby for less severe cases, which can help reduce the strain on the ED.
What do you wish associates knew about the ER admitting department?
We are often faced with working in a busy environment and our role in collecting accurate information from families is crucial for our medical staff to provide care. It’s essential to get families checked in quickly, especially during busy times so we can help those in need.
Do you have any favorite moments or stories about working at CHOC that you can share?
My favorite moments are the daily teamwork experiences. Working in an environment where everyone collaborates and supports each other makes a huge difference.
What do you think makes someone a great Defender of Childhood?
A great Defender of Childhood is someone who is caring and gentle, as children look to adults for protection and reassurance.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
My main hobby is being a mom. I spend a lot of time taking care of my kids. Right now, I don’t have much time for personal hobbies. I plan to explore more once they are older. I have three daughters, so they definitely keep me busy.
What is one thing on your bucket list?
I would love to go skydiving. It sounds thrilling, and I’m not afraid of heights.
