Amidst extinct and mythical creatures, cheers and flashing lights, the CHOC at Mission Hospital team recently sent patient Cruz Melendez home in style after an 88-day stay at the pediatric hospital in Mission Viejo.
The 17-year-old Cruz has been hospitalized since May 24 after he was hit by a car while driving home from work. Cruz endured multiple serious injuries and a long road to recovery but never gave up on his journey – and now he is back home.
After exiting Providence Mission Hospital’s campus, Cruz received a hearty welcome from Orange County Fire Authority and Orange County Sheriff’s Department first responders, as well as family, friends and a stretch limousine surprise arranged by his mother.
We at CHOC are so thrilled to see Cruz headed home, that we were here for him and his family when they needed us, and that injury did not put a little last-day magic on pause.
