CHOC has earned an Excellence in Leadership Development award from Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics in recognition of the health system’s professional development program, CHOC University.
Tom Capizzi, vice president and chief human resource officer at CHOC, accepted the award on behalf of the health system at the college’s Center for Leadership’s 10th annual Leadership Awards on Sept. 24.
“We are so grateful for this recognition by CSUF’s College of Business and Economics,” Capizzi said. “What’s most gratifying though is the impact of CHOC University felt throughout the health system. At its core, CHOC University is an investment in our workforce, recognizing that as the organization invests in its staff, they will reciprocate and invest right back into CHOC – and the patients and families we are so privileged to serve.”
Launched in 2018, CHOC University utilizes a variety of course and programmatic formats, including virtual instructor-led classes, computer-based training, and blended-learning approaches. All instructor-led courses are taught by CHOC subject-matter experts and trained CHOC facilitators, or other world-class professionals.
Through the program, CHOC has distinguished itself as an organization that prioritizes the demand for talent development and career growth journeys. In just three years, CHOC University has become a model for career development programs, prompting outreach from outside organizations seeking best practices.
The College of Business and Economics’ Center for Leadership works to strengthen leadership capacities of CSUF students, its affiliates and members of the community. The center develops and drives leadership curriculum, sponsors and disseminates research, and provides unique training and consulting to individuals and companies.
