CHOC has been recognized as a 2023-2024 Best Children’s Hospital by U.S. News & World Report. The pediatric healthcare system ranked in eight specialties: cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; neonatology; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; pulmonology and lung surgery; and urology.
According to U.S. News, the rankings assist parents of children with rare or life-threatening illnesses and their doctors in choosing the right hospital for them.
“For 17 years, U.S. News has provided comprehensive information to help parents of sick children and their doctors find the best children’s hospital to treat their illness or condition,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News.
U.S. News, together with RTI International, a North Carolina-based research and consulting firm, collected and analyzed data from 119 children’s hospitals and surveyed thousands of pediatric specialists. Children’s hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level and quality of hospital resources directly related to patient care and expert opinion among pediatric specialists.
“At CHOC, we’ve made it our mission to deliver exceptional, personalized care that ensures the utmost in safety and quality outcomes for each and every one of our patients,” said Dr. James Cappon, vice president and chief quality & patient safety officer, CHOC. “Our unwavering dedication has fostered a nurturing environment where collaboration, innovation, and research thrive, all designed to give every child and family we serve their best chance to live a healthy, happy life.”
In addition to recognition by U.S. News, CHOC has earned a host of accolades for its care. Most recently, CHOC became the only children’s hospital on the West Coast – and just one of five in the nation – to receive the 2023-2024 American Association for Respiratory Care APEX Recognition Award for excellence in respiratory care. CHOC’s asthma program was also honored with the Gold Seal of Approval® for Pediatric Asthma Certification from The Joint Commission. CHOC is the 10th pediatric hospital in the country to receive the prestigious certification.
