A $1.5 million gift will establish an anesthesiology fellowship program at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), bolstering CHOC’s longstanding role as a teaching hospital and bringing its roster of fellowship programs to nearly a dozen.
Made possible through the generosity of Allied Anesthesia Medical Group, the Allied Anesthesia Fellowship will allow CHOC to train the physicians of the future while continuing to provide expert, compassionate care to patients.
Physicians in a fellowship program are undergoing training in their medical subspecialty of choice, such as anesthesiology. A fellowship follows a three-year residency program, wherein medical school graduates train in their specialty of choice, such as pediatrics. Fellows bring what they have learned in the classroom to the patient’s bedside, learning from practicing physicians in their subspecialty of choice.
“Teaching hospitals like CHOC play a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare by serving as dynamic hubs of medical education, innovation and patient care,” said Dr. Coleen Cunningham, CHOC senior vice president and pediatrician in chief. “We are so grateful to Allied Anesthesia Medical Group for this most generous investment in CHOC, the patients we serve, and future generations of pediatric anesthesiologists.”
Allied Anesthesia Medical Group is a locally owned and operated anesthesia medical practice covering more than 30 facilities in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, including CHOC. It has the largest bench of board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists and pediatric-cardiac anesthesiologists in the state.
Allied Anesthesia Medical Group has been at the forefront of delivering high-quality care, utilizing evidence-based clinical protocols. Their commitment extends beyond anesthesia services to establish true partnerships with medical facilities.
“This gift not only exemplifies Allied Anesthesia’s dedication to teaching and mentoring future anesthesiologists but also underscores our commitment to giving back to CHOC,” said Dr. Salomon Maya, president and chief executive officer of Allied Anesthesia. “The establishment of an anesthesiology fellowship at CHOC ensures that the next generation of pediatric anesthesiologists will benefit from the knowledge, expertise and compassion embodied by CHOC physicians and staff.”
