CHOC was recently honored with the Partner for Change award from Practice GreenHealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in healthcare.
The accolade is given to healthcare facilities that continuously improve and expand programs to eliminate mercury, reduce and recycle waste, source products sustainability, and more. Honorees must demonstrate that they are recycling at least 15 percent of their total waste; have reduced regulated medical waste; have developed successful sustainability programs in many areas; and are on track to eliminate mercury.
According to Practice GreenHealth, hospitals and healthcare systems need to be more environmentally sustainable to advance safe patient care and promote healthy communities.
“I am thrilled that CHOC has received the GreenHealth Partner for Change award demonstrating our commitment to reduce greenhouse gases and promote environmental sustainability practices across our enterprise,” says Mary Zimmer, vice president, operations, CHOC. “This is a great recognition of our hard work and dedication to making a positive difference in the health of our children and our community. I want to thank the members of CHOC’s Sustainability Task Force and all those who contributed to this achievement.”
